Massive
is the only way to describe
Friday’s Celtronic event. Erol
Alkan’s profile increased considerably
during 2006, when remixes for
Scissor Sisters, Justice and
Hot Chip helped earn him the
Mixmag 2006 DJ of the Year award.
His epic sets attract bookings
from New York, Barcelona and
Rio de Janeiro over a year in
advance. His clubnight Trash
recently came to an end after
10 years. Erol also uses the
alias Mustapha 3000, and is
half of the psychedelic rock
act Beyond The Wizard's Sleeve.
He has also produced B-Sides
for The Long Blondes and the
Klaxons. However, Erol still
gets a bigger rush from DJing
than anything else. "The
time I feel most alive, and the
only time I truly feel like
myself, is when I'm playing
records and giving people a
party," he explains with
an enormous grin. "And
right now, I'm more excited
by djing than I've ever been.
I'm still an absolute believer
in the indie aesthetic,"
he explains, "and when
I'm hunting down electronic
music, it's still that independence
in spirit that I'm looking for.
I have to feel that the person
behind that record truly had
to make that record," Erol
explains. And if they had to
make it, he has to play it.
And if he has to play it, he
can't hide his excitement, and
when Erol gets excited, everyone
gets excited, until the whole
club is rocketed into Alkan
anarchy. And you just know there'll
be a lot of sore heads in the
morning.
Riotous
Rockers highly explosive cocktail
of pop projectiles, electro
bombshells, inflammable disco
and subversive rock'n'roll have
led to them being in demand
all over the world including
residencies at Manchester's
Bugged Out!, Manumission, Ibiza.
They founded the Liars Club
in London, which has hosted
acts like Bloc Party, Franz
Ferdinand, Simian Mobile Disco,
Scissor Sisters and MSTRKRFT.
And, as if that wasn’'t enough,
Pete is also one half of the
duo Nightmoves.
The Japanese
Popstars’ tracks have received
major support from of Pete Tong,
Paul Woolford, Fergie, 2FM and
BBC Radio 1. As the buzz builds
up for these boys its only going
to get bigger! The guys have
a hectic summer schedule in
place.
